What is laser ablation?
Laser ablation is a process of removing material from a surface using a concentrated laser beam. The laser energy is absorbed by the contamination layer (rust, paint, soot), which instantly heats up to vaporization temperature and evaporates or flakes off as fine particles.
The key feature of laser ablation is its selectivity — different materials absorb laser light to varying degrees. Dark contaminants (rust, soot, paint) strongly absorb energy, while bright metals (steel, aluminum) reflect it.
Pulsed laser vs sandblasting — differences
The pulsed laser removes contaminants without mechanical contact, allowing precise surface cleaning without additional abrasion of the base material.
Sandblasting works with abrasive material under high pressure, effectively cleaning large elements, but it interferes more with the surface structure and generates more dust and waste. From an ecological standpoint, the pulsed laser is the cleaner solution — it requires no chemicals or abrasives and leaves minimal waste.
What contaminants does the laser remove?
The pulsed laser effectively removes virtually all types of coatings and surface contaminants:

How fast does laser cleaning work?
Cleaning speed depends on the type and thickness of contaminants and the required cleanliness level. Approximate values for standard rust on steel:

Will the laser damage metal or the surface?
No — with properly selected parameters, the pulsed laser does not damage the base material. The laser beam is absorbed by contaminants, while the metal (steel, aluminum, copper) reflects most of the energy.
We adjust laser parameters (power, pulse frequency, scanning speed) individually for each material. Before starting work on large surfaces, we always perform a test on a sample.
Is laser cleaning environmentally friendly?
Yes — laser cleaning is one of the most environmentally friendly methods of removing contaminants:
- No chemicals or solvents
